Itinerary

DAY 01

DEPART HOMETOWN/COLOMBO
Board our flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka’s commercial center.

DAY 02

ARRIVE COLOMBO (D)
Arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport. Our local representative will meet you outside the customs gate and escort you to your hotel in Negombo.

DAY 03

NEGOMBO/PINNAWELA/HABARANA (B/D)
Drive to Habarana, en-route, visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela. (Driving time approx. 4 hours) Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage – established in 1975, the orphanage commenced with seven orphan elephants. Today some of these orphans enjoy the fortune of seeing their grandchildren born in the exact location. With the help of local and foreign elephant experts, Pinnawela started a scientific captive-breeding program for elephants. Late afternoon arrives Habarana and check-in to your hotel.

DAY 04

HABARANA/SIGIRIYA/POLONNARUWA/HABARANA (B/D)
In the morning, visit the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress – a world heritage site built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 657 feet from the scrub jungle. See the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, painted in earth pigments on plaster. Later proceed to Polonnaruwa (Driving time approx. 1½ hours). Visit Polonnaruwa, the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka built in the 11th and 12th centuries A.D., and now a world heritage site. See monuments of famous places of worship such as the Shiva Temple, the Lankathilake, the Watadage, the Galpotha, the Kiri Vehera, and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth Relic.

DAY 05

SIGRIYA/KANDY (B/D)
Today, we visit the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple, a world heritage site and one of the most remarkable cave temples built by king Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. This cave monastery is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka, noted for its Buddhist mural paintings and the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 45 feet. Continue to Kandy, a major city in central Sri Lanka known for its tea plantations and home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

DAY 06

KANDY (B/D)
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship and was named a world heritage by UNESCO in 1988. Admire the shrine’s unique Kandyan architectural style with decorative walls, golden roof, and fine woodwork. Religious services (pooja) are held daily at dawn, midday, and evening. Continue our visit to Peradeniya Botanical Garden, first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and expanded by the British. It is 147 acres in extent and provides a fantastic variety of trees, plants, and flowers. In the evening, witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan music and drumming.

DAY 07

KANDY/NUWARA ELIYA (TEA COUNTRY) (B/D)
This morning we board a train to Nanu Oya station, which is close to the old British hill station of Nuwara Eliya. The journey is beautiful and winding. You will pass tea plantations, waterfalls, and small Buddhist and Hindu temples. In the afternoon, set off to visit the tea plantation and tea factory.

DAY 08

NUWARA ELIYA/HORTON PLAINS/NUWARA ELIYA (B/D)
Early morning leave for Horton Plains (with packed breakfast), a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. Enjoy a walk here, looking out for wildlife and birds as you go. The rest of the day is at leisure. You can choose from the following optional activities: Kayaking, Biking, trekking, Croquet, or Spa treatments.

DAY 09

COLOMBO/THE MALDIVES (B/D)
Our local representative will escort you in time to Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport for your flight to the Maldives. Upon arrival, take a short speedboat ride to the resort.

DAY 10 – 11

FREE DAYS IN THE MALDIVES (B/D)
The next few days are at leisure. Set on a pristine island blessed with tropical beauty in Emboodhoo Lagoon and connected directly to the Marina @CROSSROADS Maldives, where you will find dining, upscale shopping, and spa treatments. Enjoy aquatic activities like snorkeling and scuba diving among the colorful marine life of the Maldives.

DAY 12

MALDIVES DEPARTURE (B)

Transfer to the airport by speedboat for your flight home.
