WELCOME TO MELBOURNE (DW)
Welcome to Melbourne! On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. This evening join your Travel Director for a welcome reception and dinner at the South Wharf riverside pub, The General Assembly. It’s a great opportunity to get to know everyone in a unique setting.
Join your Travel Director for a city sights tour that includes a private walk through Melbourne’s famous hidden laneways. You’ll discover the city’s eclectic little lanes, arcades, café society, and fascinating street art. Afterward, there’s time to explore the city on your own, enjoy an optional experience, or relax.
This morning you will be transferred to Melbourne Airport for your flight to Cairns, Queensland. On arrival, join a private wildlife journey at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. Enjoy a boat cruise and encounter koalas, wallabies, birds, crocodiles, and more! There will be time to partake in regenerating the rainforest, particularly to the Wangetti Valley, which Hartley’s is located. Feel free to join us as much or as little as you can with this tree planting project and be a part of keeping the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics alive! This evening is free for you to choose from the numerous restaurants that Cairns has to offer.
GREAT BARRIER REEF (B/L)
Get ready for an experience of a lifetime – board a high-speed catamaran and cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef. You can snorkel and view this natural living wonder up close (equipment provided) or stay dry and explore the stunning reef from the comfort of a semi-submersible craft, just 3.5 feet underwater. Enjoy a tropical buffet lunch before you return to Cairns.
CAIRNS FREE TIME (B/DW)
Today is a free day to do as you choose. A great option is the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to Kuranda, be amazed as you travel over and through the World Heritage rainforest, explore quaint Kuranda village, and later board the Kuranda Scenic Rail for this historic rail journey. If you’d prefer to spend the day relaxing by your hotel pool or sitting back at a local café, you can do that too! In the evening, re-join your traveling companions for a dining experience at Tjapukai Cultural Park. Hear dreamtime stories, witness a high-impact dance performance and enjoy dinner with your local host to the sounds of the didgeridoo.
Following a leisurely start to the morning, it’s time to switch the tropical vibes back to city highlights as you fly to Sydney. What a way to kick off your arrival in Sydney with a dinner cruise enjoying the famous Sydney Harbour! You’ll pass under the Harbour Bridge, sail past the Opera House, and see many magnificent waterfront homes, beaches, and parklands.
Enjoy a later start to the day, perhaps you’ll take an early morning stroll or simply make the most of a slow start. Today we explore the vibrant Inner West suburbs of Sydney. Tour Newtown, a community rich with a lively culture and home to numerous street art sites that will surprise you. Continue through the suburb of Marrickville, recently crowned the 10th “coolest” and most liveable neighborhood in the world before arriving at Dear Delicious Café. Meet the owner Greg in his sustainable garden and learn about how he has brought urban farming to the community before enjoying a tasty meal made with fresh local produce for your Be My Guest Lunch. After lunch, you will meet Andrew the founder of Batch Brewery. Take part in a masterclass on-site and learn how they combine creatively inspired limited release batches with sustainable practices. Later take some free time to do some shopping or enjoy an Optional Experience with free time this evening.
BEAUTIFUL SYDNEY HARBOR (B/DW)
Visit Wendy’s Secret Garden at Lavender Bay, overlooking Sydney Harbour. Meet a local volunteer and learn the story of how the garden was formed from unused wasteland and how it is beautifully maintained by a group of volunteer gardeners. Most importantly, your visit to the garden provides a contribution to the ongoing maintenance of the enchanting garden. Take the opportunity to walk along the Sydney Harbour foreshore and make the most of some free time. This evening join your Travel Director and fellow travelers for a farewell dinner on the harbourfront.
This morning say farewell to Sydney and fly to Queenstown, upon arrival into Queenstown, we travel to the faithfully restored gold mining settlement of Arrowtown. As you amble down the beautiful tree-lined avenues, past the 19th-century wooden buildings, you will feel like you have stepped into a movie set. Later, you will have free time to explore Queenstown.
Get a feel for real country life this morning when we meet our host for a Be My Guest Experience. Born and raised on a sheep and deer farm in the deep south of New Zealand, our host will share the story of her life growing up in the country. Try your hand at sheep mustering, whip cracking as well as the chance to feed and pet the farm animals. You’ll leave feeling more like a local than a visitor. Enjoy your free time this afternoon. An Optional Experience could see you taking a jet boat ride down the Shotover River, a minibus excursion through Skipper’s Canyon, or tempting your taste buds on a wine tour.
QUEENSTOWN FREE TIME (B)
While Queenstown wears its Global Adventure badge proudly, it’s also the perfect place to relax and explore. The town boasts great shopping with luxury brands, iconic New Zealand design stores, and boutique fashion. If bungy jumping or tree-to-tree ziplining isn’t your cup of tea, consider an Optional Experience to spectacular Milford Sound, travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Fiordland National Park. Experience magnificent scenery and many photo opportunities afforded by the Mirror Lakes, Knobs Flat, Hollyford Valley lookout (Pop’s view), Cleddau Valley, and the Chasm, drive through the hand-hewn Homer Tunnel towards the iconic Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls before reaching Milford Sound for your cruise.
Today we depart the adventure capital of New Zealand, Queenstown, and head north to the City of Sails, Auckland. This evening, why not dine at one of the many eateries on Federal Street, a hotspot for food lovers right on your doorstep. With an impressive accolade of awards between them, there is something to suit every taste at Federal Street.
Today we journey south through the King Country region, which was at the center of the New Zealand Wars in the 1860s. Join our ‘Local Specialist’ in a starry wonderland – a large galaxy of twinkling bright green and blue glowworms that light up the Ruakuri Caves, Waitomo. This evening, we join our hosts at the Mitai Maori Village for an authentic introduction to Maori culture, experience a delicious Hangi feast and cultural performance.
Visit Rainbow Springs Nature Park for a guided tour of the National Kiwi Hatchery Aotearoa, the national leader in kiwi husbandry. Learn about the work being done to save New Zealand’s national bird, see kiwi eggs being incubated, the hatching process, and newly hatched kiwi chicks. We continue to the Living Maori Village Whakarewarewa and gain in-depth insights into the lives of the Māori people and the special bond they share with this ancient land. See New Zealand’s biggest geyser, bubbling mud pools, and thermal springs. Later we’ll join our Travel Director and new-found friends for a Farewell Dinner at Terrace Kitchen on the Lakefront.
FAREWELL FROM ROTORUA (B)
Your vacation concludes this morning after breakfast. Time to bid you farewell as we transfer you to the airport for your onward flight.
