Discover the charm of Myanmar on this 7 Day tour. Explore Myanmar’s best destinations including Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar; Bagan, the first Empire of Myanmar; Mandalay, the last royal capital of Myanmar Kingdom; and the picturesque Inle Lake, famous for its floating villages and gardens.
Upon arrival to Yangon Airport, you will be welcomed by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. Lunch at a local restaurant followed by your sightseeing tour through Yangon’s main attractions. Visit Sule Pagoda dating back over 2,000 years. Then tour the magnificent reclining Buddha CHAUK HTAT GYI.After a photo stop at the KARAWEIK HALL, a barge on Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake, stroll through the BOGYOKE (SCOTT’S) MARKET (closed on Mondays and public holidays)with hundreds of food, clothes, handicrafts and gems stores. Complete your first day in Myanmar with an extended visit to one of the world’s most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda. Return to your hotel for dinner.
After early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your domestic flight to BAGAN. Upon arrival in Bagan, continue the day with visits to the most significant pagodas and temples of Bagan including Shwezigon Pagoda built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine, Ku Byauk Gyi, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes, and Ananda Temple with four magnificent standing Buddha images. After lunch at the hotel, we will have the chance to visit one of Myanmar’s most treasured handicrafts, a lacquer ware craftsmen’s workshop in nearby Myinkaba village. Then, we continue to Manuha Temple built in Mon-style in 1059 and follow on to Nanbaya Temple, a unique sandstone monument said to have been the palace of King Manuha. Next, we explore the Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple, a temple noteworthy for its mural paintings. If time permits, we will also visit the Archaeological Museum (closed on Mondays and public holidays) to view beautiful Buddha images of bronze, stone and lacquer. In the early evening, watch the magical sunset before traveling back to your hotel.
BAGAN/MOUNT POPA/BAGAN (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we drive to Mount Popa (1.5 hours), an extinct volcano with spectacular views. Mount Popa is a popular pilgrimage destination for the Myanmar people. The local people travel here from far away to worship various animist spirits known as “nats”. 777 steps lead up to the shrine placed on top of the steep Taungkalat peak. Depending on your level of fitness you can climb them.
After lunch at Popa Mountain Resort from where you have wonderful views over the surrounding region, drive back to Bagan through several villages and observe the daily life of the people and toddy palm plantations, the main source of income for the local people in this region.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for a domestic flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival at Mandalay Airport, a car will be waiting for you to commence your excursion to Amarapura, situated 9 miles from Mandalay. Visit Mahagandayon, a famous Buddhist monastery where more than a thousand monks live and study; continue to the 200-year-old U BEIN teak bridge built in 1782 when Amarapura was Royal Capital. Since the early days, Amarapura has been noted for its silk- and cotton weaving. Visit a traditional hand-woven silk workshop and proceed to Bagaya Monastery housing a superb collection of Buddha statues. Continue to Mandalay where we will have lunch. After lunch, experience the sights and sounds of Mandalay including one of the most revered religious monuments in Myanmar, the Mahamuni Pagoda, the Shwe Inbin Monastery, the Golden Palace Monastery, a superb example of a traditional wooden building, and Kuthodaw Pagoda the world’s largest book, made of 729 marble slabs on which the entire Theravada Buddhist Pali Canon is inscribed. Visit a traditional hand-woven silk workshop as well as a Kalaga tapestries craftsmen’s shop before proceeding to Mandalay Hill for sunset.
MANDALAY/HEHO/PINDAYA/INLE LAKE (B/L/D)
After breakfast, transfer to Mandalay Airport for a domestic flight to Heho. Upon arrival, proceed to Pindaya (2 hours) along a narrow and bumpy road. Visit Pindaya Caves, a unique site housing thousands of Buddha images placed there by devotees and pilgrims over the centuries. After lunch, drive to Nyaung Shwe (3 hours) and reach your hotel on Inle Lake onboard a long tail boat.
INLE LAKE (B/L/D)
After breakfast, a full day excursion by boat on Inle Lake will include sights of the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing, village life and magnificent scenery. In the morning, visits are made to Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda and one of the local markets in the Inle Lake region (on market days only). After lunch, re-board your boat and head to the western shore of Inle Lake where you find the beginning of a stair path leading to the Indein Pagoda complex. After visiting this stunning religious complex, return to your hotel by boat for a free evening.
INLE LAKE/HEHO/YANGON (B/L)
After breakfast, you will be transferred by boat to Nyaung Shwe and from there by car to Heho Airport for a domestic flight to Yangon. Upon arrival in Yangon, Proceed for sightseeing, shopping or lunch. You have a chance to complete your Yangon impressions with a visit to the Kaba Aye Pagoda. After lunch, transfer back to the airport for your onward flight.
