DAY 01


We arrive in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. Meet our guide at the airport for your private transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

DAY 02


Begin with an exploration of the Museum of Ethnology (closed on Mondays – alternative to visit Vietnamese Women’s Museum). This museum showcases art, traditional clothing and reconstructions of traditional longhouses from 54 different ethnic groups. Afterwards head to the Temple of Literature with its walled courtyards and graceful gateways. Founded in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius, this was also the site of Vietnam’s first university. Continue to visit Ho Chi Minh Memorial Complex where the Vietnamese people honor the country Great Father. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (outside only) which contains the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh; and Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House where Ho Chi Minh lived from 1958 until his final days in 1969. Preserved in the same condition as during his life, it may be viewed through the windows. Following by the miniature 11th century One Pillar Pagoda which was rebuilt after being destroyed by the French in 1954. Continue to the infamous Hoa Lo Prison. Built by the French to imprison political prisoners, Hoa Lo was sardonically nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War by American POWs.

DAY 03


After breakfast, we drive through rice paddy fields to Halong Bay. Upon arrival at Tuan Chau Island, we board our cruise ship and set sail this afternoon. Cruise through majestic Halong Bay while lunch is served. Enjoy the magical bay where thousands of sculpted limestone islands rise from the waves like dragon’s teeth. The cruise continues cruising through a fishing village on the bay and passes the spectacular limestone caves dotted around the bay. Soak up the sun on the top deck with optional on-board activities: sunbathing, and photo opportunities. In the evening the chef will prepare a splendid meal comprised of fresh seafood dishes and other traditional dishes. Overnight on-board.

DAY 04


Greet the day with a morning Tai Chi exercise on the Sundeck that offer a perfect opportunity to view the sunrise over the bay. After breakfast, visit a beautiful limestone grotto then return to the boat for a final glimpse of the Halong Bay while cruising back to the dock. Check out and drive to Cuc Phuong National Park situated in the foothills of the northern Annamite Mountains. The forested limestone slopes of Cuc Phuong protect an impressive variety of animals and plants. It is home to some spectacular primates including gibbons, macaques and rare and endemic Delacour’s leaf monkey. The Park is also home to some fantastic birds including Grey Peacock-Pheasant, Brown Hornbill, Bar-bellied, Blue-rumped and Eared Pitta, White-winged Magpie, Sultan Tit, Red-Vented Barbet, Limestone Wren-Babbler, Fujian Niltava and Pied Falconet. We will stay two nights in a resort near the national park, which provides basic accommodation.

DAY 05


A full day’s birdwatching on the trails of Cuc Phuong. The birding is good at Cuc Phuong with over 300 species recorded in the park. Endangered mammals such as Indochinese Tiger, Clouded Leopard and the rare Delacour Langur also inhabit the forests of Cuc Phuong. Other possible bird species include Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl, Ruddy Kingfisher, Silver-breasted Broadbill and White-tailed Flycatcher. Overnight in Cuc Phuong.

DAY 06


After breakfast, visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, observe and study about some of the rarest species of primate in the world. Then, visit the Park’s Turtle Conservation Center. This sanctuary was established to protect and breed many species of Asian turtles and tortoises. In the late afternoon we will have our first chance to look for wildlife along the Park’s main road before driving to Ninh Binh.

DAY 07


After breakfast, check out and transfer to Tam Coc to enjoy a wonderful boat ride through the gorgeous scenery named as Halong Bay on land. Tam Coc is best explored by boat as there are a series of 3 inter-link caves. Take a tiny wooden boat ride cruising up the river. Rowing through these natural marvels is quite a thrill. After lunch at local restaurant, transfer back to Hanoi for our flight to Hue, the former imperial capital.

DAY 08


Today, we explore the ancient imperial city of Hue. Take a boat cruise along the romantic Perfume River, visit the elaborate mausoleums of Tomb of Tu Duc and Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most ancient architectural structures for religious worship in Hue. We explore the grounds of the citadel complex and observe high stone walls and the refined palaces and temples behind them. We stroll through the traditional Vietnamese Dong Ba market before heading to Hoi An.

DAY 09


In the morning, explore Hoi An town on a walking tour, follow narrow lanes lined with century old buildings influenced by Chinese, Japanese, French and European architecture. Stroll through the town’s traditional market and riverfront before returning to our hotel for a free afternoon.

DAY 10


Board our flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s economic hub. Upon arrival, continue to Cat Tien National Park (3.5 hours drive). Cat Tien National Park is an incredible diversity of birds and mammals including over 330 bird species. Endangered birds found here include Germain’s Peacock Pheasant, Green Peafowl and the very elusive Orange-necked Partridge. Mammals that may be seen along the trails include Leopard Cat, Eurasian Wild Pig, Lesser Mousedeer, Sambar, Red Muntjac and Gaur as well as two endangered primates, Black-shanked Douc Langur and Buff-cheeked Gibbon. Overnight at Cat Tien National Park HQ. We will stay two nights in a lodge inside the national park, which provides basic accommodation.

DAY 11


A full day of birding along the road and forest trails at Cat Tien National Park. Jeeps may use to visit areas further afield such as Crocodile Lake where Green Peafowl, Grey-headed Fish Eagle and Lesser Adjutant may be seen. The 3 miles walk through the forest to Crocodile Lake is one of the best places to look for Blue-rumped and Bar-bellied Pitta as well as Red-and-Black and Banded Broadbill and Orange-breasted Trogon amongst others. Other specialties at Cat Tien include Scaly-breasted Partridge, Siamese Fireback, Germain’s Peacock Pheasant, White-bellied, Great Slaty, Pale-headed and Black-and-Buff Woodpecker, Red-vented Barbet, Woolly-necked Stork, and Grey-faced Tit-Babbler. Overnight at Cat Tien National Park HQ.

DAY 12


The morning birding on the trail at Cat Tien National Park focus to targets such as Germain’s Peacock Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Green Peafowl, Blue-rumped and Bar-bellied Pittas and many other widespread species such as Doves, Bulbuls, Purple Swamphen, White-breasted Waterhen, Kingfishers, Pale-headed and Black-and-buff Woodpeckers, Black-and-red, Banded, Dusky Broadbill. After lunch, drive to Ho Chi Minh City.

DAY 13


We begin our sightseeing with a morning tour of the historic centre, strolling along Dong Khoi Street, formerly known as the Rue Catinat, the main shopping thoroughfare and the heart of old colonial Saigon. Pass by classic European-style landmarks such as the ornate City Hall, the old Opera House (both may only be viewed from the outside), and pay a quick visit to the neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Afterward, dive into modern history with a tour of the Reunification Palace. Formerly the Independence Palace of the South Vietnamese president, this 60s style building was famously stormed by tanks on April 30, 1975 signifying the fall of South Vietnam. It has been preserved in its original state, and the original tanks remain on display near the entrance gates. Continue to the harrowing War Remnants Museum, which comprehensively documents the travails of the long Vietnam War. Inside are detailed photographic exhibitions; outside is a collection of tanks, planes and weapons. Then visit the Emperor of Jade Pagoda, one of Saigon’s most interesting pagodas. In the afternoon, head out to Cholon (Chinatown). Explore the highlights of this fascinating area, beginning with a walking tour from Tran Hung Dao Street through Nguyen Trai and Soai Kinh Lam market, visit Cha Tam Church. Continue to Thien Hau Pagoda, built by the Cantonese congregation and dedicated to the heavenly goddess. Our last stop is the central Ben Thanh Market, where vendors display a vast array of goods and handicrafts, appealing to every taste.

DAY 14


Located 47 miles northwest of Ho Chi Min City, the Cu Chi Tunnels are an elaborate underground network of tunnels and chambers in the town of Cu Chi. The Cu Chi Tunnels were an important Vietcong base during the American War. Stretching over 124 miles, this incredible underground network, dug by hand out of hard laterite, connected command posts, hospitals, shelter and weapons factories. We will walk through the area and learn about the day to day life of the Vietcong, bear witness to the cleverly disguised entrances and elaborate booby-traps, and even venture inside the tunnels, some of which have been modified to accommodate tourists.
