Itinerary

DAY 01

DEPART HOMETOWN/BALI

Board your flight to Bali.

DAY 02

ARRIVE BALI

Upon arrival in Bali, the Alila Hotel airport representative will await you outside the arrival hall with a clear sign stating ‘Alila’ and escort you to the awaiting Vehicle. The duration of the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes driving

Bali is well-known for its diverse and sophisticated art forms such as painting, sculpture, woodcarving, handcrafting, and performing arts. Alila Ubud is a tranquil and secluded hillside retreat that sits high up on the edge of the rich Ayung River valley in Bali’s central foothills, in the traditional Balinese hill village of Payangan.

DAY 03

UBUD ART VILLAGES AND MONKEY FOREST (B)

Spend half a day exploring Ubud, the cultural heart of the island; and the neighboring villages, home to locally made arts and crafts. Our first stop is at the village of Celuk, popular for its gold and silversmiths. Pop into one of these home-industries to witness the skilled artisans creating intricate gold and silver jewelry. Take a look at some of the locally designed arts to admire the high levels of craftsmanship. The next stop is at Mas village where the local people create beautiful carvings and statues from wood. Watch as the talented woodcarvers turn logs of wood into beautiful statues inspired by humanism and naturalism. Take a walk through Ubud Monkey Forest, a sanctuary for the malevolent but photogenic long-tail macaques. Explore the forest and temple where mischievous monkeys roam freely. At Ubud market, take some time to stroll among the colorful stalls of wood carvings, textiles, arts and crafts. Many of the handiworks are locally made in the nearby villages and make beautiful souvenirs to take home. Return to the hotel.

Your stay includes a 60-minute Balinese massage at Spa Alila, contact hotel front desk to make advance reservation.

DAY 04

BATUKARU TEMPLE AND JATILUWIH WITH PICNIC LUNCH (B/L)

Visit a sacred temple in the rainforest, walk among the terraced rice paddies and enjoy a romantic picnic with unforgettable views. In the morning, the driver and tour guide will collect you from your hotel for the journey to Batukaru Temple. Located on the misty southern slopes of Mount Batukaru, Bali s second highest volcano, the peaceful temple is surrounded by lush rain forest. Due to its remote location it is rarely visited by tourists, yet is an architectural beauty featuring a multitude of shrines with tiered roofs. It is meant to protect Bali from evil spirits and is an extremely sacred site for the islands Hindu population. From here drive to the Unesco listed rice terraces of Jatiluwih where stunning emerald-green rice fields cover the sides of the hills. Take a short trek of about 30 – 45 minutes through the rice terraces to your special picnic spot. While you walk your guide will tell you about the Subak irrigation system that has been preserved by the Balinese farmers for centuries.

Sit down and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch while taking in the undisturbed views over the stunning landscape.

DAY 05

UBUD/SEMINYAK (B/D)

After hotel check out, take the hotel’s private transfer to Alila Seminyak, located in Seminyak along a pristine beach on Bali’s southwest coast, just steps from the Indian Ocean.

In the afternoon, unwind and zip a signature cocktail at the resort’s Beach Bar, the perfect spot to watch the sun dip into the Indian Ocean. Tonight, enjoy a 3-course dinner at hotel’s Sea Salt Restaurant.

DAY 06

A MORNING IN DENPASAR (B)

Spend a morning exploring Denpasar, the capital and hub of the island. Stroll around the famous Badung Market where the locals bargain for a wide variety of food and products from all over the island. Your guide will explain how the many exotic spices and herbs are used in Indonesian cooking, and you can even sample some of the delicious tropical fruits. From the market walk to a nearby family run Chinese coffee shop that has been passed down through the generations. Sample a cup of one of their many freshly brewed coffees. Next it is time to visit some of the museums to get a feel for the history of the island. At the Bali Museum see the various collections of weapons, sculptures, paintings, textiles, musical instruments and theatrical masks. Then visit Bajra Sandi, the war museum, with its impressive monument and exhibits that portray the different wars that were fought during Indonesia fight for independence. This afternoon is free at leisure.

DAY 07

TANAH LOT AND ROMANTIC RICE FIELD DINNER (B/D)

Tuck into the many dishes of a romantic rijsttafel dinner in a traditional Balinese pavilion surrounded by rice fields. Late afternoon drive to the stunning coastal Tanah Lot temple located on a rock island in the sea. Without a doubt the most famous and photographed place in Bali, this sacred Hindu temple sits majestically on a large offshore rock which has been shaped over the years by the crashing waves of the surrounding sea. After photographing the views of the temple exterior and the unusual rock formations, drive to nearby Mengwi for a romantic Balinese dinner. On arrival make your way through the rice field along a path illuminated by flaming torches. The flickering lights lead you to a traditional Balinese pavilion that overlooks a small river and the surrounding rice paddies. Take a seat at the table and relax while the waiter brings the many dishes of a traditional rijsttafel. This elaborate meal, adapted by the Dutch colonial plantation owners, consists of flavorful Indonesian dishes accompanied by rice. To further compliment the meal you will be served a bottle of chilled Tunjung Brut, a sparkling Balinese wine produced from Indonesian grapes in a Balinese vineyard.
