This journey highlights Vietnam’s key cities as you travel from the capital city of Hanoi in the North to the commercial center of historical Saigon in the South. Enjoy an overnight stay in a traditional Chinese Junk and admire breathtaking rock formations in the scenic Halong Bay. Cruise down the fabled perfume River in the imperial city of Hue before strolling through Hoi An’s historic town where you can get a taste of the local specialties with our dine-around program.  Admire the French colonial architecture in Ho Chi Minh City, a sprawling metropolis brimming with historic attractions such as the Reunification Palace. We will also venture beyond Ho Chi Minh, to the fascinating towns of My Tho and Cu Chi, to see a different side to life in Vietnam. Itinerary

DAY 01

ARRIVE IN HANOI

Upon arrival in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, meet your guide at the airport for your transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

DAY 02

HANOI (B/L/D)

Begin with an exploration of the Museum of Ethnology. This museum showcases art, traditional clothing and reconstructions of traditional longhouses from 54 different ethnic groups. Afterwards head to the Temple of Literature with its walled courtyards and graceful gateways. Founded in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius, this was also the site of Vietnam’s first university. Continue to visit Ho Chi Minh Memorial Complex where the Vietnamese people honor the country’s Great Father. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (outside only) which contains the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh; and Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House where Ho Chi Minh lived from 1958 until his final days in 1969. Preserved in the same condition as during his life, it may be viewed through the windows. Following by the miniature 11th century One Pillar Pagoda which was rebuilt after being destroyed by the French in 1954. Continue to the infamous Hoa Lo Prison. Built by the French to imprison political prisoners, Hoa Lo was sardonically nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War by American POWs.

DAY 03

HANOI/HALONG BAY CRUISE (B/L/D)

Travel to Tuan Chau Island where you board Paradise Luxury Cruise for a cruise of picturesque Ha Long Bay. As the Paradise Luxury makes its way to Halong Bay, you will have time to savor a delicious lunch while enjoying the stunning landscape of Halong Bay. Your first excursion is a visit to Tung Sau Pearl Farm, an area in Halong Bay dedicated to growing pearls and practicing a handmade technique based on Vietnamese tradition and Japanese technology. This is also an ideal destination for kayaking or relax onboard and treat yourself to a delicious afternoon tea. Our next stop is the magnificent Sung Sot Cave, where you will be surprised by the breathtaking panoramic view across the Bay once you exit the cave. Back aboard the Paradise Luxury, cruise to Coconut Tree Island where our ship will anchor overnight. Enjoy a cocktail or two as the sun sets over the karst landscape. Later, partake in a Vietnamese cooking demonstration before dinner. The rest of the evening is free to relax, you may go squid fishing or watch a movie in the restaurant.

DAY 04

HALONG BAY/HANOI/HUE (B)

Greet the day on deck with tai chi session as the sun rises, followed by a light breakfast in the restaurant. Disembark on Titov Island, take a hike to the top of Titov Island for stunning panoramic views of the bay. Then, go for a swim in Halong Bay’s emerald waters, or sip from a coconut in the shade. Back on board, you can opt for your breakfast to be served in the restaurant or your cabin. Cruise pass Thien Cung and Dau Go Caves and Fighting Cocks Islet before returning to Tuan Chau Island. Disembark and drive back to Hanoi for your flight to Hue, Vietnam’s imperial past.

DAY 05

HUE (B/L)

Today, we explore the ancient imperial city of Hue. Take a boat cruise along the romantic Perfume River, visit the elaborate mausoleums of Tomb of Tu Duc and Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most ancient architectural structures for religious worship in Hue. We explore the grounds of the citadel complex and observe high stone walls and the refined palaces and temples behind them. Stroll through the traditional Vietnamese Dong Ba market before returning to our hotel.

DAY 06

HUE/HOI AN (B/L/D)

Drive along the coast, through emerald-green paddy fields and over the spectacular Hai Van Mountain pass. En route, visit Danang’s Cham Museum with the world’s finest collection of Cham artwork. Hoi An has excellent places to eat and drink. Street vendors, local restaurants scattered throughout town pack with local specialties. In the late afternoon, we walk through the backstreets of Hoi An to discover the delicious and authentic local dishes. Enjoy the local snacks and its atmosphere before having our dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Thu Bon River.

DAY 07

HOI AN (B)

In the morning, explore Hoi An town on a walking tour, follow narrow lanes lined with century old buildings influenced by Chinese, Japanese, French and European architecture. Stroll through the town’s traditional market and riverfront before returning to our hotel for a free afternoon.

DAY 08

HOI AN/SAIGON/CAN THO (B/D)

We fly this morning to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Upon arrival continue for a three-hour drive south to the Mekong River town of Cai Be then on to the busy river port and provincial capital of Can Tho.

DAY 09

CAN THO/SAIGON (B/L)

We rise early for a journey by boat to the region’s largest floating market at Cai Rang. You will have a chance to observe lively activities of merchants trading their produce as well as enjoying the seasonal fruit before returning to Saigon.

DAY 10

SAIGON (B)

We begin our sightseeing with a morning tour of the historic centre, strolling along Dong Khoi Street, formerly known as the Rue Catinat, the main shopping thoroughfare and the heart of old colonial Saigon. Pass by classic European-style landmarks such as the ornate City Hall, the old Opera House (both may only be viewed from the outside), and pay a quick visit to the neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Afterwards dive into modern history with a tour of the Reunification Palace. Continue to the harrowing War Remnants Museum, which comprehensively documents the travails of the long Vietnam War. Inside are detailed photographic exhibitions; outside is a collection of tanks, planes and weapons. Then visit the Emperor of Jade Pagoda, one of Saigon’s most interesting pagodas. In the afternoon, head out to Cholon (Chinatown). Explore the highlights of this fascinating area, beginning with a walking tour from Tran Hung Dao Street through Nguyen Trai and Soai Kinh Lam market, visit Cha Tam Church. Continue to Thien Hau Pagoda, built by the Cantonese congregation and dedicated to the heavenly goddess. Our last stop is the central Ben Thanh Market, where vendors display a vast array of goods and handicrafts, appealing to every taste.

DAY 11

SAIGON (B/D)

In the morning, we will visit the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, the underground network from which North Vietnamese forces operated in wartime. This afternoon is free for independent exploration. Tonight we enjoy a farewell dinner.

DAY 12

SAIGON DEPARTURE (B)

We depart for the airport for our overnight flight to the U.S.
