Experience Japan’s most popular cities with this 8-day program, which begins in the bustling city of Tokyo where you will explore the city's many famous and historical landmarks including the Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, Asakusa Kannon Temple, and the Nakamise Shopping Arcade. Travel to Hakone and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of Japan from the heights of Mt. Fuji. Explore the bustling morning markets and hillside shrines of Takayama, a contemporary city that still boasts its ancient traditional charm. Marvel at the unique architectural style of the famous Gassho-Zukuri farmhouses of Shirakawago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Finally, travel to Kanazawa, which is most famed for the castle garden of Kenrokuen along with its striking streetscapes of the former geisha and samurai districts.

Our adventure begins as you board your flight to Tokyo.
Arrive in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, to be transferred to our hotel by airport limousine bus.
Embark on a morning tour in this exciting metropolitan city. Visit Meiji Shrine, nestled in 175 acres of tranquil forest, it is Japan's most famous Shinto shrine, dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. Drive by the National Diet Building to see the imposing Japanese Capitol (the House of Parliament) dominated by a massive central tower. Wander through one of the vast inner gardens of the Imperial Palace before heading to Sensoji, the oldest and most popular Buddhist temple in Tokyo, built for the goddess of Kannon. Browse through the Nakamise-Dori Shopping Arcade, lined with many vendors offering typical Japanese souvenirs and traditional local snacks. Tour disbands on arrival at Ginza. Return transfer to hotel is on your own arrangement. The afternoon is free for further exploration, shopping, or relaxation.
Travel by coach to Mt. Fuji, Japan's highest mountain at 12,388 feet. Stop at the Fuji visitor center to see cultural art dedicated to Fujisan. Stop at Mt. Fuji's fifth station at 7,607 feet where you will be inspired by the beauty of the landscape. After a Japanese style lunch, take a scenic cable car ride up Mt. Komagatake to the Owakudani volcanic valley, famed for its scenic views and kuro-tamago hot springs. Then, enjoy a boat ride across picturesque Lake Ashi. Afterwards, check-in to your hotel.
At Odawara Station, board a shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya. Upon arrival, take a limited express train for Takayama, an ancient, tranquil city also known as "Little Kyoto". Spend the afternoon at Takayama and visit Yatai Kaikan Hall, where colorfully decorated traditional festival floats are displayed. Explore the Kusakabe Folkcraft Museum, formerly the residence of powerful merchants under government patronage, and the streets of Kami Sannomachi, where preserved traditional Japanese wooden architecture still exists.
Explore the colorful morning market of Takayama, lined with stands selling local crafts, farm products, and flowers. Enjoy a scenic drive by Lake Miboro and along Shokawa River to Shirakawago, a World Heritage Site since 1995. Its highlights are unique structures known as Gassho-Zukuri, or joined-hands farmhouses. Then visit Gokayama, another World Heritage village, where you can experience making Gokayama Washi, traditional Japanese paper. Arrive in Kanazawa in the late afternoon.
Morning sightseeing in Kanazawa that visits Kenrokuen Garden, Kutaniyaki Pottery Kiln, Nagamachi Samurai House Area/Nomurake, and Higashi-chaya Street. In the afternoon, return to Tokyo by limited express train and the Shinkansen.
Free time until your departure transfer to the airport.
