LivingSocial Escapes

10 Days/Air & Land / From $2899
Imagine a land almost entirely devoid of neon signs. A place where people still commute on horse and cart, and cell phone service is virtually non-existent. Where men wrap themselves in skirts and women adorn their faces with intricate designs. This is Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, a country in Southeast Asia that has all but ignored Western culture. Here, a gleaming gold pagoda built more than 2,600 years ago still stands today, and the ancient tradition of chewing betel is alive and well, as evidenced by the red-stained mouths of frequent users. Instead of bacon, eggs, and pancakes, breakfast is most often a steaming bowl of rice noodles and fish soup, while dinner might include a tea leaf salad with peanuts, ginger, and dried shrimp.
